DEVELOPMENT DIARY

How GhostPeg keeps improving.

We tell what changes, dated and without embellishment: what is already in testing, how we measured it and where we are going. What is published here reaches everyone with the next program update.

SERIES · IN TESTING

What is said is what you see

If someone in an episode says they cannot open their bag of chips, the bag has to be in their hand. If they talk about going by bike, the bike has to show up. That used to fail: characters talked about things that never appeared. Now GhostPeg reads every line of the script and puts in the scene what is said. • The object goes to its owner: "your float" belongs to the other character, and so does "why do you want a float?". • The action happens when it is said, and everyone does it when it is plural: "let’s go by bike". • The place changes when they say where they are; "let’s go to the pool" leads to the next scene. • Things said in the past or in the negative are not added ("I rode my bike yesterday", "I didn’t bring the float"). • The AI that writes the script knows the rule and knows what each character is (a ghost floats and has no legs), and a second pass checks the episode for consistency. • If something got lost, the creator adds it by hand in the scene and moment they choose, and only that episode is redone. In 2D, objects and vehicles are now drawn: the bike with both hands on the handlebars, the airplane with its boarding stairs, the pool with the water on top and the float.

2D ANIMATION · IN TESTING

Real four-legged animals

A dog is no longer a dog walking like a person. If you write "my dog", "a horse" or "a cow", the animal walks on four legs and each at its own size: a dog is not as tall as a person, and a horse is. • They walk, trot and gallop with paws that step on the ground without sliding. • The horse and the giraffe have necks; the dog and the fox, a side-view head. • The tail moves with their mood: fast when happy, tucked when sad. • The elephant has a big head, ears and a trunk, and "a cyclops" comes out big and with a single eye. • Elbows and knees bend with a rounded corner, like in cartoons.

2D ANIMATION · IN TESTING

Arms and legs that bend: goodbye hinges

Until now our 2D characters were rigid cutouts: the arm had a hinge at the elbow and the legs walked like scissors. In the version we are testing, every arm and every leg is a single piece that bends: elbows and knees round off like in cartoons. • When walking and running, the leg that moves forward bends its knee in the air and the foot stays level. • When jumping, the character crouches before taking off, tucks its legs in the air and lands softly on its knees. • Feet stay on the ground: when the legs spread or bend, the body lowers just enough. • Standing still, nobody is stiff: the weight slowly shifts from one leg to the other. • Waving and pointing arrive with a little momentum and settle, instead of stopping dead.

This is the first step. Next: the whole character bends (torso, tail and ears too) with a skeleton and a mesh, and a motion engine built on the 12 principles of animation.

Without AI, the cast now understands your idea

When the local AI does not answer, GhostPeg builds the series by reading your idea. We measured it with 100 real ideas written by another AI: before, it got the number of characters right in 44 of 100 and what each one is in 36. Now it gets all 100 right, and also 45 more ideas we wrote to put it to the test. • It understands English and Spanish: "a grumpy owl and a nervous chameleon" are an owl and a chameleon. • It counts: "three musician mice" are three mice, and "a family of extraterrestrials" are a dad, a mom and a kid. • It keeps the names: "Max, a dachshund" or "Lucy and her cat Michi". • It knows what each one is: "a boy who turns into a wolf" is still a boy, and "the pirate ship" is the place, not another character. • It picks the most precise world: "Halloween street", not just any street.

WHERE WE ARE GOING

What is next: the AI draws, our engine animates

• Your character templates: upload your 2D figure or your 3D model (.glb with its skeleton and animations) and it stays in your library; our engine moves it with every action in the script, and the community can use it, changing its colors and spots. • The AI draws your character (from your idea or your photo) and our engine animates it: every character different, moving like an animated series instead of a puppet. • Motion in words: "move the foot forward", "raise the right arm". • New bodies: four legs (dogs, cows, horses), fish and dolphins, and living cars. • Voices in three groups: yours, GhostPeg voices and fast voices for modest computers, keeping the emotions (romantic, excited, shouting…). • Your PC decides: whatever your computer cannot handle is flagged before you start, not halfway through.

We are in beta and building it with you: tell us what you want to see first.
